Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) is a climbing shrub widely used in Ayurveda.
It’s also called Guduchi or Amrita (meaning nectar of
immortality), thanks to its powerful rejuvenating properties. The stem
is the most commonly used part.
How is Giloy Used?
Giloy can
be taken in multiple forms depending on convenience and purpose:
- Fresh stem
juice
- Decoction
(kadha)
- Powder
(churna)
- Tablets
or capsules
- Giloy
satva (starch extract)
Traditionally,
it’s consumed on an empty stomach or as advised by an expert.

1. Giloy Kadha (Decoction)
Best for
immunity & fever
Ingredients:
- 1–2
small pieces of fresh Giloy stem (or 1 tsp powder)
- 1½
cups water
Method:
- Crush
the stem lightly.
- Boil
in water until reduced to 1 cup.
- Strain
and drink warm.
Dosage:
Once daily, preferably in the morning.
Best for
detox & immunity
- Blend
or crush fresh Giloy stem with water.
- Strain
the juice.
Dosage:
10–15 ml juice mixed with equal water.
- Take ½–1
tsp with warm water or honey.
Giloy is
powerful—more is not better.

- ❌ People with autoimmune diseases should consult a doctor
- ❌ Not recommended for children without medical advice
- ❌ Excess use may cause low blood sugar
- ❌ Avoid long-term daily use without breaks
Tip: Use for
4–6 weeks, then take a break.
